Poison Control for Cats part 3

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

Ok I got the rest here, and I really can not stress enough how vital it is really, I know most people know but wow, I know my babies are the world to me, and I dont want anything to happen to them at all! The rest are:

English Ivy
Also called branching ivy, glacier ivy, needlepoint ivy, sweetheart ivy and California ivy, Hedera helix contains triterpenoid saponins that, should pets ingest, can result in vomiting, abdominal pain, hypersalivation and diarrhea.

Peace Lily (AKA Mauna Loa Peace Lily)
Spathiphyllum contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing and intense burning and irritation of the mouth, lips and tongue in pets who ingest.

Pothos
Pothos (both Scindapsus and Epipremnum) belongs to the Araceae family. If chewed or ingested, this popular household plant can cause significant mechanical irritation and swelling of the oral tissues and other parts of the gastrointestinal tract.

Schefflera
Schefflera and Brassaia actinophylla contain calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing and intense burning and irritation of the mouth, lips and tongue in pets who ingest

Now again all those are curtiousy of aspca website.

I it almost almost the new year and I am thankful for my babies in my life. I went to the appliance store, and well the reason was my dryer died well it works but it tears up our clothes its horrible I tell you! So we went there and this lady super nice, offered us to please take a kitten she rescued and it would could come with 50 lbs of food, liter, and she would also declaw, and spay and get shots when time. I was like wow, and she explained why she couldnt keep her, due to her animals not getting along. I wish I could but I feel bad I can not as I have many now and thats enough, But if I could man I sure would, I hope the New Year will bring a wonderful person to take her, or her animals finally get along :)

Poison Control for Cats part 2

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

Ok to continue I didnt want to load you all with it all at once, so thought to break it all up for ya here is a few more, I never would have thought oh my, I am so thankful to see this!

Oleander
All parts of Nerium oleander are considered to be toxic, as they contain cardiac glycosides that have the potential to cause serious effects—including gastrointestinal tract irritation, abnormal heart function, hypothermia and even death.

 Castor Bean
The poisonous principle in Ricinus communis is ricin, a highly toxic protein that can produce severe abdominal pain, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst, weakness and loss of appetite. Severe cases of poisoning can result in dehydration, muscle twitching, tremors, seizures, coma and death.

Cyclamen
Cylamen species contain cyclamine, but the highest concentration of this toxic component is typically located in the root portion of the plant. If consumed, Cylamen can produce significant gastrointestinal irritation, including intense vomiting. Fatalities have also been reported in some cases.

Kalanchoe
This plant contains components that can produce gastrointestinal irritation, as well as those that are toxic to the heart, and can seriously affect cardiac rhythm and rate.

Yew
Taxus spp. contains a toxic component known as taxine, which causes central nervous system effects such as trembling, incoordination, and difficulty breathing. It can also cause significant gastrointestinal irritation and cardiac failure, which can result in death.

Amaryllis
Common garden plants popular around Easter, Amaryllis species contain toxins that can cause vomiting, depression, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypersalivation, anorexia and tremors.

Autumn Crocus
Ingestion of Colchicum autumnale by pets can result in oral irritation, bloody vomiting, diarrhea, shock, multi-organ damage and bone marrow suppression.

Please please if you dont know if you have these or not, please take a search on the web for them and see what they look like, or even get a plant book, we cant have your cats getting sick and dying, this is horrible! I actually know of a few of these my mom has and will get rid of them, or put them up higher out of the way!

Poison Control for Cats

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

It is always good to know there are severl poisonous plants out there you all should made aware of in case you dont already know but first I want to bring this up

For the Poison Control Center : As the premier animal poison control center in North America, the APCC is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $60 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card

Ok it is great really to have this number but I think it is a bit ridiculous for them to have to charge you 60 fricken bucks, get real, you are in trying to help your loved one, and sure they have those ask a nurse for free this should be free too, but hey everyone has to get their money I guess..

I have a few here and will list the others tomorrow for you all ok? this is all thanks to the aspca site I love them

Lilies
Members of the Lilium spp. are considered to be highly toxic to cats. While the poisonous component has not yet been identified, it is clear that with even ingestions of very small amounts of the plant, severe kidney damage could result.   Scarey!!

Marijuana
Ingestion of Cannabis sativa by companion animals can result in depression of the central nervous system and incoordination, as well as vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, increased heart rate, and even seizures and coma.

Sago Palm
All parts of Cycas Revoluta are poisonous, but the seeds or “nuts” contain the largest amount of toxin. The ingestion of just one or two seeds can result in very serious effects, which include vomiting, diarrhea, depression, seizures and liver failure

Tulip/Narcissus bulbs
The bulb portions of Tulipa/Narcissus spp. contain toxins that can cause intense gastrointestinal irritation, drooling, loss of appetite, depression of the central nervous system, convulsions and cardiac abnormalities.

Azalea/Rhododendron
Members of the Rhododenron spp. contain substances known as grayantoxins, which can produce vomiting, drooling, diarrhea, weakness and depression of the central nervous system in animals. Severe azalea poisoning could ultimately lead to coma and death from cardiovascular collapse.

I will list more for you tomorrow so you are aware and have the lists to add together, these are all again thanks to the aspca site, but man, becareful of your little ones folks they are innocent and need your guidance

Destructiveness in dogs!

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

This is another good thing to bring up really, I know my mom had a dog who was a horrible dog and we dig a few tricks and wow, amazing difference hehe,

See there are dogs who do things to test I think, they are purposely  testing limits and seeing what they can do, and well in the middle breaking things and damaging things what a fricken nightmare, and most would say Oh its only with the hyper breed, that is not true all breeds do it until they are taught not to !

They chew for fun, they chew for stimulation and exercise, and they chew to relieve anxiety, well we need to nip things here, always give them something to chew on, new chew toys is great, they always have something they know is theirs, I will tell, put a tennis ball, inside of a Long old sock, and tie a few knots in it, not only will give them something to chew on, but you will also have a toy to play tug o war with them with, and really socks with knots cheap and perfect for them and puppies oh my! the best ever. Just trade toys ever other day and give them something new so they are not bored they are like us in many ways and get bored easily really. Your not bored reading this are you? Undecided

I will tell you the best thing, if you have a doggy who jumps on the counter to take things off, hehe we use to use double sided tape and line the counters with them, and they hated that and it often makes them stop after a few times and dogs hate when they have loud things hit the floor, so maybe put a cookie sheet on the end of the counters, and then you can also have things up there they would take, well put spicey hot things on it you know they will hate, tobasco sauce, or something and oh yea they will learn and stop

Anyone have other suggestions?

You have a Digging Dog?

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

Honestly 1 of many annoying things with dogs, is the fricken digging, OMG that drives me nuts! Honestly they will not do it if they are tought not to, I have learned animals do things depending on the owner if you dont tell them no, they will do it, but DONT abuse them my goodness!

I did some research and I never thought of this really, I thought dogs dug to be a pain and want out, or to dig and hide something, well,  some dogs it for logical reasons.

If you have a heavy fur breed, and they dig, it was saying they are doing it due to being hot and its for a cooling area, and it was suggested for you to bring in a kiddie pool for them to relax in, or a tent something to keep them cool in the heat so they dont dig it. interesting,

THe biggest thing though was all about dogs doing it if they are not fixed to go and get some lol, well hello fix your doggies get them neutered and problem should be solved

Now heres this here too. If your dog digs because he’s bored or lonely isolated in the backyard, train him to behave when home alone, and keep him indoors. When you do give him backyard access, go out with him and throw a ball, toss a Frisbee, or practice obedience commands. Hide biscuits around the yard and encourage him to track them down. Go for a walk together. Invite neighborhood dogs over for a play date. When a dog is kept busy and mentally stimulated, he’s less apt to dig. Thanks to aspca for this info here

Very good thing to know I think. Just pay attention, I honestly think you should NOT have animals if you cant baby them and pay attention to them, they are like your kids, they can not be left alone,.

Declawing cats

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

Ok, I have to admit something here, I use to hate it so much, I honestly thought it was really very cruel and I disagreed with it, and well, I had no respect for people who did it to the animals because I believed it hurt them and I do not like to hurt animals.

Before you say anything, the first cat I had with their nails declawed was Spazz. Chuck had done this to him before I got him so it was something new and I thought how mean why would you do something like that I mean come on!

Well I found it earier in many ways and he seemed fine, was not having problems although he had him done many years ago. but still. Now I will tell you Peach.. We Did have him declawed for a good reason actually. See he was already a year old, and was outside, and we brought him in  and well of course he was wild, and there was NO WAY on any planet you could cut his nails he would tear you up. We were trying to help him and sure he was getting use to being inside but well… we did it, we got the nails gone, and wow what a difference, and he is actually ok with it. We had a great Vet, took well care of him, and I babied him like no other, and made sure he was ok and happy, and he is too much of a wiggle wart to sit still, but, he turned out ok.

Now Sweet pea is another… i know I got him done as well, the reasons are, because he was really big on cuddling and making biscuits on you, and let me tell you I LOVE to cuddle and I love having them lay with me and give me love, but it hurt like hell to have them claws on your eyeballs, and so forth, and I tried to have him stop, but well I spose it was a silly reason to do it, but I went ahead and did it, he isnt clawing on things, and he can cuddle all he wants and I dont get hurt, and he is happy, and yes I babied him too big time.

Now Punky she is actually very good with her claws, and I wont get her declawed, there really is not any reason to. I was doing some research though and I see there is another thing they have now. which honestly.. I dont see the point and I think declawing is simpler then this, well cutting their nails is better but..

An alternative surgery—called tenectomy—severs the tendons in the toes so the cat is unable to extend the nails to scratch. There appears to be less pain associated with recovery from this surgery. Owners who opt for this surgery must clip the cat’s nails regularly because the cat is unable to maintain them himself.

Now to me this sounds mean, I dont like the thought, I dunno, and its pointless really if you are already cutting their nails anyhow why do this? I dont like it 1 bit!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS ALL!

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

I just wanted to say Happy Christmas to you all and your lovely family (the animals :P) oh and the human ones too haha, To me my pets are my family and they deserve more then any human, as they are not cruel and mean like humans are.
Anyhow your cats deserve presents too, and You know you can find awesome gift boxes and packages for them on certain sites, some on Walmart Petsmart, and so forth.

Heck have a stocking up for them too, put in a can of tuna for cats, beef jerkey for doggies :P what ever your babies love.!

We have stockings up and I put in all 4 a small can of tuna, and a baggie of cat treats a flavour for each one so we know whose is whose, although they mostly all share, but we all know all animals have something they dont like, and funny there are treats some like over others, so it works, anyhow also a crinkle toy and a feather with the best catnip, the kong kind of course, I tell you i swear by them, my babies love it, and will take a Kong filled catnip toy over a other brand name anyday,  so good to know right?

If any of you out there read these and you give your babies christmas presents, I would love to hear all about it, and what you give, to even give others suggestions as well,  I think its important :)

Tips on Scratching for cats

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

I hear all the time about people complaining about the cats and scratching you know they do it for many reasons really: They scratch to mark their territory. They scratch as a means of threatening other cats. They scratch in play. They scratch while stretching.
AS we all know when they scratch it sharpens those babies and there are some who dont cut their cats nails and can you imagine the feel of those cutting you ? hell no haha

You Must cut their nails regularly, this is so vital really, and if you are unsure there are special places to go to learn if you need I will mention to ya, but never go too far, only the tip, you could really hurt them if you do too much and thats a no no!

I tell you cats just love carpet so if you are handy and you have some wood and left over carpet make something unique for them, its easy and its cheaper really then buying something, and they will most likely like it better, then again you have to put cat nip on it and they will like it or anything haha, the more scratching posts you have the less change they will scratch on things you dont want them to.

I would also like to add the best Cat Nip I have ever came across was Kongs. It has a nice smell and it is all natural too which I find very important really, and well you can get it and the cats rub them selfs all over it and will go nuts, so get some Kong kind, typically you can get it with the scratching boxes and those are so well liked. DO NOT get the ones that say a corner one, they are not what you think, they are a normal sided and its cut in the middle a bit of a waste of money, get the double as you can flip ot over later.

Also wanted to mention they say these have caps out now, but I would not suggest them, sure they are nice to have a month on, but, the cats are going to bite at them all the time, and who knows what they are made of, and could damage your babies, they are stuck on with a glue I mean come on how unnatural,  either clip them, or declaw them.

I will have more laters :D

awww wild cats part deux

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

I am back here again and I was mentioning yesterday, or my last post you read hehe, all about the wild cats I have here and well I was talking about Ms. Buttons the slut haha, I know that is mean but man she is though, I wish we could capture her and get her fixed, Hey Anyone know of a free service to fix cats that are wild? I knew of one in CO. but not here in TX so I thought to ask.

Ok so anyhow, Buttons has given birth to SO many kittens, Snowball so cute, the liter before that though I got my Sweet Pea now he has a brother who is still outside though, His name is Spooky, and let me tell you he fits his name 100% he is straight up sppoooookkkyy! He will run away fast and is always so jumpy more then a normal wild cat lol. Hard to believe huh? He is so cute he is a dark orange stipped and big eyes like sweet pea and buttons so cute!

So then there is another kitten these next ones came in to play after the liter with spooky and sweet pea.

Mittens: oh my godness, you should she him or her hah I dunno what it is, but I think its a girl, anyhow SO cute, all orange striped with white cheeks, and oh the best parts has white feet from where the ankles are down all white on all four, so my parents named her/him Mittens which oh you should see so cute!!!

Stubby: Now this name is odd I know but again I didnt choose it at all, but hey hehe, it actually fit him/her again dont know the sex but I think its a male… will find out later hehe, Stubby is so freaking cute looks just like a butter ball! No lie! They only stay around my parents house as they know they will always have food there, and  he is short legged, and big and round, and has this cute chunky face, and oh and when he runs its so cute! I have never seen a wild cat like that hehe

I swear when I can, IF I can, as they do not like to be around people other then my parents, but I will try hard to get pics, I know I keep saying that, but I do have a few pics I will load for you soon!

awww wild cats

Published by mistressvampyr under pets Edit This

I  know I have mentioned a few times about our wild cats we have living outside, I do not think I mentioned them all though, but they are all so sweet except 1 UGH on him, I will be more then happy to explain them all I just love cats what can I say?

Frankie: he is white and has some yellowish on him, I think it could be because he is dirty lol, but he has rings up his tail and he is huge, I mean really big, he could be bigger if he was a indoor cat though, fatten him up and look out! But he is really a lover more then a fighter and its sad sometimes he gets really tore up. He got it on with Buttons and my moms cat Snow ball comes into play, which looks like him.

Buttons: she is the town slut, hehe thats what I call her, I know its not her fault but my goodness, she gets pregnant and gives birth, and then I swear shes at it again holy hell man. She is the one who is the mother of many of the other outside. She is so cute, cute as a button, thats why my parents named her that. She is orange striped with a mainly whitish around her lips shes so cute, and she had our little Sweet Pea (which yes my parents named him as they were going to keep him, but he liked us better hehe) He looks just like her, hes so cute!

Mouth: what a name right? I dunno who named him either my parents or the neighbors, but he is a really neat cat. He is a loud mouth he always talks to you, and is a sweet heart he will rub against you and want to be petted, and he is a sprayer oh my, he sprays everything haha. He is a striped grey and black and brown. He is well known by our neighbors as he goes and gets fed at 4 houses he is pretty spoiled!

JR: This one oh wow, he is the most worthless cat, he is mean and nasty! Nothing nice to say about him at all, unfortunately he is Mouth’s son but nothing like him, He and mouth get into and he and frankie, he is always picking on everyone it is a nightmare little shit! He is another black striped and white and grey cat,

Church: well nothing to reall say about church really, he or she is a cat who stays on our side of the street, and comes and eats, hes all grey very pretty, and very very wild. We only see him when he is out and about and eating the food we put out, which is for the cats though anyhow! We named him church after… can anyone guess?? Come on famour Stephen King book/film….. ding ding Pet Semetary! He looks like church on there hehe

Now R.I.P. Longhair: she was so pretty and so sweet and was around forever, until this jerkoff moved across the street from my parents and let his huge dog out. We think he killed her :(  She was long haired orange semi striped cat, She is the one who gave birth to Buttons,  she always took care of her cats and stayed around, and it was horrible when she was missing! She had a liter before she went though, which is where Punky came from, I think Mouth or Jr was her dad.. and then her brother Willie, which by far is Peach’s son, and peach  I think my mom said was Long hairs I dont remember.

I will have to update you on the the other ones out there tomorrow I dont remember their names, they are the kittens of Buttons and they are OH SOOOOO CUTTTEEEE!!
